Rex L. Suttles

U.S. Veteran

Rex Linn Suttles age 71, of Rose City, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2012. Rex was born July 3, 1940 in Flint, MI the son of Martin and Pansy Suttles. He graduated from Flint Central High School in 1959.

In 1962, he was called to and served a 2 year mission in the Canadian Mission for his church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

After his mission, he went to work for General Motors and in 1965 chose to serve his country in the U.S. Army. While serving in the military, he started a 6 month correspondence with Joann Engberg who he later met and married. He was honorably discharged from the Army in May of 1968 and went to work at Buick Motor Division the day after he returned to Flint where he worked until the summer of 1995 when he retired.

Rex and Joann lived in Flint until 1996 when they moved to Rose City, MI. When asked why he chose to move to Rose City he would joke—“I drove until I fell asleep and that’s where we looked for property”.

Rex is survived by his wife Joann Marie (Engberg) Suttles, son Mark Suttles of Pennsylvania, daughter, Sabrina Suttles of Rose City and sister, Patricia Burt of Rose City.

Grandchildren, Michael Suttles of Florida, Christopher Suttles of Georgia, Amanda Suttles of Florida, Maurice Jones of Rose City and Ali Jones of Rose City. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and many many friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Pansy Suttles and a baby sister Shirley and also recently by a dear brother-in-law Chuck Burt.

Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Alan Withers will officiate. Service of Committal will take place on Thursday at Crestwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Grand Blanc at 11:00 a.m.
