David P. Petroit

David P. Petroit, age 85 of St. Helen passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Grayling Mercy Hospital. David had lived in St. Helen since 1973, formerly of Ypsilanti.

David was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in St. Helen and served as the treasurer of the Men’s Club. He enjoyed being a volunteer driver for the Department of Social Services in Roscommon County and part of the coffee clutch at Glens Market. He helped build the interstate road system through Ohio and Michigan and helped with the construction of the Hope Lutheran Church in St. Helen. David enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping with his family and gardening, growing fruits and vegetables.

Survivors include his wife Ida Mae Petroit of St. Helen, children Penny (Mike) Srock of Ypsilanti and Paul (Chris) Petroit of Haslett, his grandchildren, Heather (Mike) Middleton of Flat Rock and Steven (Danielle) Srock of Belleville and his great-grandchildren Mitchel, Jacob and Logan Middleton and Ethan Srock. Also surviving are his sisters Eleanor Saunders of Arizona and Emily Miller of Northville and many nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Helena, a brother Louis Petroit and 2 sisters, Martha Vowell and Helen Baggett.

Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in St. Helen will begin on Friday, June 15, 2012 from 3-9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Hope Lutheran Church in St. Helen. Pastor Rodney Morrison and Pastor Paul Ruediger will officiate with burial following at Fairview Cemetery, St. Helen.
