Alexander Galant

September 6, 1933 — August 3, 2020

Alexander Galant, age 86, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2020 at Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital. He was born on September 6, 1933 in Detroit to Alex and Mary (Morris) Galant. Alexander served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. From there his career was over the road driver for Standard Products. For 30 years he was driving the Big Rigs! He lived in St. Helen for the past 25 years, formerly of Southfield. Alexander was a member of the St. Helen Catholic Church, Knight of Columbus Council #8390, American Legion Post #416 and the NRA. He collected trucks and ammo and enjoyed shooting guns, and western and cowboy movies. He was a craftsman and made lighthouses and birdhouses. He always had a cowboy hat on and enjoyed eating vanilla ice cream.

Alexander is survived by his daughter, MaryAnne (Frank) Carroll of Oxford; grandchildren, Melissa (Louie Sosa) Carroll of Grand Blanc, Lisa (Matthew) Carroll of Lake Orion, Michael (Melissa) Carroll of Rochester Hills, Nicole (Michael) Rustkowych of Oxford and Mary (Eddie Smolak) Carroll of Clarkston; great grandchildren, Alexa, Lucia, Louie, Renee, Jeremay, Aubrey, Ella, Roman Alexander; brother, Joseph Galant of Lakeland, FL; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marlene and siblings, Ralph, Fred, Wilfred, Mary and Richard.

Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in St. Helen will be held on Friday, August 7, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

A private funeral mass will be held at the St. Helen Catholic Church with veteran honors.

Visitation will be held with precautions, due to the current pandemic, limiting the number of attendees at a given time.

Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Helen Catholic Church.
