Daniel Keith Weiler

June 3, 1966 — February 12, 2020

Daniel Keith Weiler, age 53, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at The Villa at Rose City. He lived in West Branch his entire life. Dan was born on June 3, 1966 in West Branch to Joseph and Jacquoline (Hopkins) Weiler Jr. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a councilman for the City of West Branch for many years. Dan loved trains and NASCAR. He enjoyed old westerns, people watching and Mountain Dew.

He loved his West Branch community and could be seen at every Fabulous Friday event. He was always proud of his nice trucks and kept them spotless. He married, Melissa, and they had two awesome beautiful children. Even though their marriage didn’t last, their friendship did. He was very proud of the fact that they were always going to remain friends. His proudest accomplishment was his children. Danielle and Keith were always his top priority. He loved them very much and you couldn’t find a more proud father. His last wish was that he could still be here and walk Danielle down the aisle someday. He had lots of family and friends that loved him dearly and his absence will be felt by many. He was a fighter. He battled chronic illness his whole life. His brothers, Greg and Mike, had both selflessly given Dan kidneys at age 17 and age 37. For the past 11-12 years, Dan made many new friends at DaVita Dialysis. He was loved by all past and current staff and patients.

Dan fought hard against his kidney failure. He was a survivor...one of the toughest people around... but his liver failed more recently and his body had no more to give. His mind never gave up. He was going to fight to the end... and he did just that. He always had a strong faith and would be at church with his mom, Jackie, every weekend.

Normally one would say “fly high” Dan... but we know you took the train!! So from your engineer spot on that train, embrace the peace and joy in heaven. You are free. We will never forget you.

Dan is survived by his son, Keith Weiler of West Branch; daughter, Danielle Weiler of West Branch; mother, Jackie Weiler of West Branch; brothers, Greg (Patricia) Weiler of VA and Mike (Laurie) Weiler of West Branch; “sister” through lifelong friendship, Lori Tetu of West Branch; mother of his children, Melissa Dunkle of Belleville; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Weiler Jr.
