Joseph George Tyson

July 21, 1932 — August 2, 2020

Joseph George Tyson, age 88, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2020 surrounded by his loving family at MidMichigan Medical Center West Branch. He was born on July 21, 1932 in Detroit to Joseph and Minnie (Baker) Tyson Sr. Joe lived in St. Helen since 1972, formerly of Warren. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950-1952. On July 12, 1952, he married Norma Jean Shook in Royal Oak. Joe was a member of the American Legion Post #416 in St. Helen and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed westerns, being outdoors, fishing, and feeding the animals.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Jean Tyson; children, Janis (Butch) Steinhebel, Joseph G. Tyson, Charles (Peggy) Tyson, Jean (Mike) O’Halloran and Karen (RJ) Lake; 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; sister, Betty Marie; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Herb and sister, Alice.

Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in St. Helen will begin on Saturday, August 8, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Paralyzed Veterans and the Ogemaw County Deer Refuge.

Visitation for Joe will be held with precautions due to the current pandemic and limiting the number of attendees at a given time.
