Adlean Labuhn Hopkins

Adlean LaBuhn Hopkins, age 92, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at West Branch Regional Medical Center. She has lived in West Branch since 1963, formerly of Dearborn, MI. Adlean was born to Joseph and Leona (Smalley) LaBuhn on July 2, 1922 in Bad Axe, MI. She attended nursing school in Detroit and became a registered nurse. Adlean worked at Detroit Receiving Hospital and the industrial medicine clinic at General Motors. She married Dr. Andrew Hopkins on April 17, 1955, shortly before he began his service in the US Army. They were stationed first in Honolulu, HI, and then Anchorage, AK. They settled back in the Detroit area, and lived in Dearborn for many years. They bought property in West Branch in 1963. Adlean, Andrew, their family and friends enjoyed the time spent in West Branch, and Adlean began living in West Branch year-round beginning in 1989. Adlean loved the outdoors, walking and gardening, and was an avid reader. Family always came first in Adlean’s eyes, and raising her family was her top priority. She was a resident of Bortz Heath Care in West Branch, MI from July 2012 to January 2014.

Adlean is survived by her children: Danial Hopkins of West Branch, MI, Deona (Tom) Grady of Germantown, WI, David Hopkins of Guam, and Donald Hopkins of Slovenia; and grandchildren: Sasha, Margaret, Tommy, Matthew, Jennifer, and Cameron, and one sister-in-law, Rose LaBuhn of Bad Axe. She is preceded in death by her husband, Andrew J. Hopkins M.D., daughter, Angela, and siblings: Eleanor, William, Ray, Genevieve, Bertha, and Joseph.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, November 17, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 12:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. Father Patrick Maher will officiate.
