Alfreda C. Steelman, age 90 of Davison, formerly of West Branch, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2009. Alfreda was born in Whittemore on November 22, 1918 to Harold F. Black and Charlotte (Partlo) Black. She was joined in marriage to Joseph H. Steelman on June 18, 1938. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1991. Alfreda was a member of the West Branch First United Methodist Church and a life-time member of Zion Rose #117 Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodges. She had been employed by Abbs Hardware for many years, worked with the Hospice of Helping Hands and was a tutor for the Chinese. She is survived by her children Gloria (John) Eldred of Waterford, Kay Wheeler and companion Al Belch of Davison, William (Susan) Steelman of Swartz Creek; six grandchildren John Michael (Peggy) Eldred, Amy Jo Eldred-Lynch, Craig (Penny) LaLonde, Carrie (Victor) Johnson, Scott (Amy) Steelman, and Michelle Steelman; 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Sister-in-laws Eva Black, Iva Dell Black and Eugenia Steelman. Many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six sisters and two brothers. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Monday, June 8, 2009 from 2-8 p.m. with an Eastern Star Service at 7:00 p.m. On Tuesday, visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Mary Lynch will officiate with burial following at Brookside Cemetery, West Branch. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of West Branch or to Brians House of Davison, 1515 Cal Drive, Davison, MI 48423.
