Calvin Keith Meiser

Calvin Keith Meiser, age 92, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at his home in West Branch with his family by his side. He was born on December 28, 1925 in Elgin, IL to John and Eva (Miller) Meiser Jr. Cal moved to Prescott in 1926 and at the age of 12 dedicated his life to Christ and was baptized. By the age of 15 he was living on his own and working in Houghton Lake at Mr. Carter’s Resort. He also worked for a shipping company transporting iron ore, making 57 trips across Lake Superior. At the age of 18, Cal began his service with the Merchant Marines during World War II and always considered that to be his greatest accomplishment. In 1983, he was happy to receive notice that his time as a Merchant Marine was now considered as veteran status. Cal was active in the American Legion for many years and enjoyed woodworking, fishing and puzzles. He was a member of the Zion Church of the Brethren for 80 years.

Cal is survived by his children, Joy Meiser-Mendis of Stratham, NH, Lynda Rule of Boise, ID, Diana Burns of Sedra Woolley, WA, Gary Nafziger-Meiser of West Branch, Gene Meiser of Harrisonburg, VA and Bill Meiser of Waterford; 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; and siblings, Alice (Martel) Morache of Boise, ID, Dorothy Tate, Boise, ID, Carl Meiser of Houston, TX and Bill Meiser of West Branch. He is preceded in death by his parents, wives Florence Novobilsky Meiser in 1999, Dorothy Griffin Meiser in 2006, and Viola Moorhouse in 2015; brothers Floyd and Ron; and sister Gertrude.

Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a veteran’s honor service at 6:30 p.m. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at the Zion Church of Brethren in Prescott at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Kevin Switzer will officiate.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Zion Church of Brethren, American Legion #103 or Compassus Hospice.
