Charles Lee Grewe

Charles Grewe, age 97, of Gladwin passed away at home on Monday, March 9, 2020 surrounded by his family. Charles was born on September 27, 1922 in Hatton, MI and was son to Henry August Grewe and Stella (Young) Grewe. Charles lived in Gladwin (formerly of Grand Blanc) the past 40 years after retirement from Fisher Body – Flint working as a machine repairman/pipefitter. He enlisted in the Army Air Force on January 1943, starting out in the 416th Unit and when it was renamed to Air Force, he was in the 8th Unit. He was discharged in November 1945. Charles worked in the oil fields for a good share of his young adult life. Charles met his wife Helen (Jones) Grewe in Mt. Pleasant and they were married on March 23, 1946. They were married 51 years until her death in 1997.

Charles loved deer hunting, woodworking, fishing, puzzles, euchre, garage sales, and spending time with family.

Charles is survived by his children; Jim (Tracey) Grewe, Ann Grewe (Thom Williams), and Nancy McLean-Grewe; granddaughters, Sarah (Nick) Mawhinney and Christie (Ben) Nelson; grandson, Ryan Williams; great granddaughters, Olivia and Alexia Mawhinney; along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Helen; brothers, Herman Ray, Alva (Pete) Ray, Vernon, Clarence and Fred Grewe; and sisters, Victoria, Violla and Hazel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Sacred Heart Mission Food Pantry Gladwin or a charity of your choice.

Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will be on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:30 a.m.
