Cynthia S. "Cindy" Short

Cynthia Sue Short, age 49 of Mason, Michigan passed away Sunday, February 17, 2013 at West Branch Regional Medical Center. Cindy was born May 1, 1963, the daughter of Arthur and D. Jane Short. She was a former Ogemaw County resident and graduated from Ogemaw Heights High School in 1981. She broke the OHHS ladies career basketball scoring in 1981, a record that stood for over 30 years, finally being broken in 2010. She also holds the record for most points scored in a game (42), most assists in a season with 137 and most career assists of 298. Cindy attended Alma College, graduating with a degree in Exercise Science and Health Management, attended Michigan State University and Central Michigan University graduating with a degree in Teacher Education and received her Master’s Degree in Secondary Education Administration from Grand Valley State University. She was employed by Lansing schools for 25 years and was the current athletic director at Everett High School. Cindy was an avid sports fan and she enjoyed boating, snowmobiling, golf and working with kids. Cindy is survived by her mother, D. Jane Short of Lupton, sisters: Roxanne (Dan) Benjamin of Rose City and Patricia (Lee) Ward of West Branch, her brother Randy (Jane) Short of West Branch and her close personal friend Cheri Meier of Mason and many beloved nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces. Also surviving are her special friends and exchange students, Misao Ishihara Ito and Yuko Ishihara who have kept in touch throughout the years. She also leaves behind her special dog Mayzie. She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur E. Short in 2005. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Sunday, February 24, 2013 from 1-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery in South Branch at 3:30 Monday. Pastor Jody Coon will officiate. Memorial Contributions may be made to Scholarship Fund in Memory of Cindy Short.
