David L. Corey

David Lewis Corey, age 88 of West Branch, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the West Branch Regional Medical Center after a short illness. David was born on April 5, 1924 to Verne and Ruby (Young) Corey. He married Olive “Yvonne” Stirling on June 4, 1949 in Pontiac, Michigan and celebrated 63 years of marriage. David was an active community member as he belonged to the West Branch Shriners, West Branch Masonic Lodge, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in West Branch. He served his country in the US Army in the 164th Infantry of the Americal Division. He moved to the West Branch area in 1969 and was a Post Commander for the Michigan State Police at the West Branch Post until 1979. After retiring from the MSP he started his own farm, raising cattle for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping with his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Yvonne, and his 5 children Nancy (John) Schutt of Lexington, MI; Joan (John) Peck of Laingsburg, MI; Beth Kurtz of Augusta, MI; Carol (Steve) Garner of Mt Pleasant MI; and Joel (Beth) Corey of Kawkawlin, MI. He has 9 grandchildren, 3 great grand children, 1 sister, Mildred (Darrel) Burget of Holly, MI and many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation at the Steuernol McLaren Funeral will take place Friday, August 3, 2012 from 5-8 PM. A Masonic Service will be held Friday at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Funeral services will take place at the First United Methodist Church in West Branch on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 3:00 PM with visitation from 2-3 PM at church. Rev. Dale Swihart and Rev. Lisa Cook will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
