Deana M. Schick

Deana (Grifka) Schick, loving wife and mother, passed into our Lord’s hands on September, 3, 2010. Born in Argyle Michigan on December 10, 1942, she married Dareld Schick on October 17, 1964. She worked as a hairdresser in a beauty shop she operated in her home. In 1986, she attended Kirtland Community College and received her Associate Degree in nursing. She retired in 1999 from Bortz Health Care in Rose City. After retirement, she wintered at their home in North Fort Myers. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Dareld Schick. Six children: Maureen (Jeff Toorongian) of Houghton, Michigan; Paul (Michele) of St. Claire Shores, Michigan; Marcia of East Tawas, Michigan; Susan (David Silver) of Milton, Ontario; Lucille Lundgren of Orchard Lake, Michigan; and James of Rose City. Her grandchildren: Joshua, Victoria, Nathan, Jill, Colleen, Ethan, and Eliana. She is also survived by her mother Claire Grifka, and her sisters Loretta Wojtalewicz, Joyce (Ray Reetz), Emily (Larry Flannery), Tina (James Baumer), sister-in-law Diana Grifka and numbers nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence; brother, Charles; son-in-law, Steve Lundgren; and brother-in-law, Gerald Wojtalewicz. Deana was a wonderful homemaker providing for her family while working with her husband on the family farm. She was a scout leader for both boy and girl scouts and also taught religious education classes. She learned to play the piano alongside her children. She bowled for many years in various leagues and began golfing in her retirement, managing to shoot a hole in one. Visitation will be at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in Rose City from 3-9 PM on Sunday September, 5 2010. The rosary will be recited at 7PM. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Fr. Richard Seifferly will be held at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Klacking Creek at 11AM with visitation starting one hour prior to the service on Monday, September 6, 2010.
