Donald A. Matthews

Donald A. Matthews, age 87 of Lupton, went to be with the Lord Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Bortz Health Care in Rose City. Donald had lived in Lupton all of his life. He married Dorothy Davis on May 22, 1943 and was a devoted husband for 66 years. He loved the Lord and was a member of the Lupton Friends Church. Donald was the Rose Township Treasurer for 16 years. He was a builder, mason, and carpenter. He loved Tigers baseball, hunting, fishing, and enjoyed being outdoors. Survivors include his wife Dorothy of Lupton, children, Colleen G. (David) Trapp of Grand Rapids, Peggy M. (George) Jueckstock of Grand Ledge, David M. Matthews of Norristown, PA, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is sister, June Reasner of Rose City. Donald is preceded in death by parents, Melvin and Mae Matthews, grandson, Christopher David Matthews, brothers, Lawrence, Oliver, William Matthews, and sister, Ione Howard. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in Rose City will begin on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 from 4-9 p.m. The Funeral service will be held at Lupton Friends Church on June 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Jack Rice and Pastor Matthew Smith will officiate with burial following at Lane heights Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Helping Hands or to Gideons International.
