Donald W. Thompson

Donald W. Thompson, age 88 of West Branch, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2012 at home with family by his side. Don enjoyed spending time with Dorothy and their family as they watched their grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in extra-curricular activities at school, in the community or at church. Don was a member of the First United Methodist Church in West Branch. Don retired from North Star Specialties. Both he and Dorothy also retired from hauling milk to Kraft Foods in Pinconning. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and being outside, especially doing his lawn work. Don was born August 2, 1923 in Prescott, the son of Ralph and Lola Thompson. Don married Dorothy Harmon on March 20, 1943 in the Methodist Church in Prescott. Rev. Theodore Yahn officiated. They recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary with their family. Don is survived by his wife, Dorothy of West Branch, three children, Daryl (Chris) Thompson of Morley, Dean (Judy) Thompson of Gladwin, Dana (Sue) Thompson of West Branch, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and another due in June, five step grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is brother, Robert (Kris) Thompson of Whittemore. Donald is preceded in death by daughter, Darlene Dawn Thompson, parents, Ralph and Lola Thompson, and sisters, Helen DelDuco and Charlotte Shepherd. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin Tuesday, May 29, 2012 from 2-8 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at 11:00 am with visitation prior from 10:00 am until time of service. Rev. Lisa Cook will officiate. Burial will take place at Richland Cemetery in Prescott at 3:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Advantage or family’s choice.
