Doris Rogers, age 96 of Rose City, Michigan, passed away Saturday June 11, 2011 in Bay City at the hospice Brian’s House. To her family and friends she was ‘Aunt Doris’ ‘Aunt Doris’ was born October 20th, 1914 on the family farm in Klacking Township to Arthur and Clara Fisher. A photo, taken in 1925, shows Aunt Doris with her childhood and lifelong friends Thelma Reetz, Josephine Schaefer, Hazel Fach, and Erma Meir. All of them attended the Geroy School in Klacking Township. After school ‘Aunt Doris’ moved downstate to the Detroit area to seek employment. During WW II she served her country as a ‘riveter’ at the bomber plant in Willow Run . It was in the Detroit area that she met and married Jospeh ‘Curly’ Rogers of Indiana and together they built a home in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. She was employed by General Motors and cooked in the executive office until her successful retirement. She loved nature, cooking, gardening flowers and raising vegetables, which she canned. Together Aunt Doris and ‘Curly’ renovated the house and improved the land upon which they lived until his death in 1978. After Curly’s death, Aunt Doris continued to live on the land independently until her passing. She was dearly loved by her family and friends and will be missed by many in her community and church, Churchill United Methodist. She was known for her work ethic, charity towards those in need, and a sense of humor accompanied by a ‘twinkle’ in her eye. Aunt Doris is survived by: Nieces: Betty Kolfage of Dearborn Heights, Ardis Hassett of Manchester, Victor Fisher of West Branch and Mary Lou Fisher of West Branch. Great Nephews: Keith Kolfage of Ludington, Brian Kolfage of Dearborn Heights, Kevin Kolfage of Dearborn Heights, David Whitehill of Milan, Kevin Whitehill of Portland Oregon, Barth Whitehill of Milan, Robert Allen Fisher II of Taylor, William Fisher of Taylor, Victor Fisher of Galdwin, Jeremy Fisher of Warren, Gary Fuller of Flint, John Fuller of Texas, Steven Fuller of Flint, Neal Garcy of Syracuse, New York, Bruce Garcy of Syracuse New York, Tod Fisher of Linden and Shawn Lopez of Linden. Great Nieces: Marybeth Moody of Farmington Hills, Pamela Hildt of Allen Park, Toni King of Taylor, Leanne Weirseng of Walled Lake, Wendy Jacobs of Martha’s Vinyard, Massachusetts, Barbara Fisher of Lupton, Susan Fisher of Bay City and Dianne Fuller of Flint. Dearest Cousin: Doris ‘Little Doris’ Doepker of Saginaw. Dearest Friends: Donnie Everitt of Boston Massachusetts, Correan Meir of Rose City, and Lottie Bryant of West Branch. Preceding ‘Aunt Doris’ in death went her husband Joseph Rogers; parents, Arthur and Clara Fisher; her brothers Arthur, Glen, Leslie and Cecil Fisher; her Nephews Gerald Fisher and Robert ‘Butch’ Allen Fisher; her Nieces Christine Garcy and Barbara Whitehill. Funeral services for Doris Rogers will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at the Steuernol and McLaren Funeral Home in Rose City. Visitation will be prior to the service on Tuesday from 11-1:30 pm at the funeral home. The Reverand Ronald Cook will officiate with burial following at Lane Heights Cemetary in Lupton, Michigan. A special thanks on behalf of Aunt Doris and her family and friends to the hospice Brian’s House for their wonderful care and caring for our Aunt. Aunt Doris will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
