Douglas C. Sparks, age 71 of St. Helen passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at his home. Douglas had lived in St. Helen since 1994, formerly of Hazel Park, MI. He delivered Meals on Wheels, was a member of the American Legion Post #416, the Moose Lodge, Eagles and Snowpackers all of St. Helen, Moose Lodge of Harrison and the Eagles of Houghton Lake. He was a volunteer at Grayling Mercy Hospital, a volunteer firefighter in Auburn Hills and a member of the JayCees of Pontiac. Douglas is survived by his wife Sandra Brody-Sparks, children, Roberta (William) Lackey of Jefferson, TX, Ronald (Louise) Sparks and Russell (Mary) Sparks both of Prescott and Raymond Sparks of Cheboygan, 19 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and his sister, Joanne (Merrell) Charboneau of Clarkston. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Beatrice. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the American Legion Hall in St. Helen. Pastor Bob Mohr will officiate. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Roscommon Animal Shelter or to the Ogemaw Hill Free Methodist Church.
