Elizabeth Ann Wilcox

Elizabeth Ann Wilcox, age 91, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014 at West Branch Regional Medical Center. She had lived in West Branch for most of her life. Elizabeth was born to Ralph and Margaret (Beemer) Hewitt in Mt. Pleasant, MI on October 21, 1922. Elizabeth was a member of the First United Methodist Church for many years. She was an intermittent member of the Episcopal Church of West Branch and Mt. Pleasant, and was an associate member of the Presbyterian Church in Apache Junction, AZ. Elizabeth received her Bachelors and Master’s Degree from Central Michigan University and was an Elementary Teacher for 32 years. She was a life member of Michigan Association Retired School Personnel, Michigan Education Association, and National Education Association. At one time Elizabeth was also a member of the American Association of University Women. Other memberships that she belonged to were: the Order of Eastern Star-Tawas Bay Chapter, Past Matron of Zion-Rose #117, Delta Kappa Gamma Beta Iota Chapter, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Rebekah Lodge. Elizabeth is survived by her stepchildren: Mary Kay Wilcox of TX, Linda (Ron) Hamilton of Cadillac, Polly Vicenzi of Marquette, MI; step sons in law: Dr. R. Stuart Young of Harbor Beach, Frank Deni of Mt. Pleasant, William Overbay of FL; 14 grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Richard Swain and second husband, Lyle Wilcox. Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch, MI will be on Sunday, May 11, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be Monday at the First United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Edwards Township Cemetery. Rev. Lisa Cook will officiate. Memorial Contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, Ogemaw County Clergy Fellowship, WMSD 909 FM Radio, or West Branch Little League.
