Florence Irene Martin

Florence Irene Martin, age 91 passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at the Horizon Senior Living with her family and caregivers by her side. Florence has lived in Ogemaw Co. for most of her life. She was born on July 31, 1924 in West Branch, Michigan to Carroll and Alice (Holt) Martin. She was a teacher for many years. In 1947 she graduated from Eastern Michigan University with her Bachelors of Science, and in 1952 obtained her Master’s Degree from Columbia University in New York City. She then went on to do her advanced work at Wayne State University in Detroit. She was a long time member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Rose City. She dedicated over forty years to scouting and belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star #117. She also belonged to the Rose City Historical Society and the Jack Pine Rock & Gem Club. She was well loved and cared for by her family and friends at the Horizon Senior Living.

Florence is survived by her niece Connie (Gary) Roettger of West Branch, nephew Larry (Sydney) Martin of Lewiston her great nephew Paul (Cyndy Call) Roettger of Lansing, great niece Ann (Rocky Skidmore) Roettger of Birch Run, great nephew Larry C. Martin of Lewiston, and great niece Holly Martin of Petoskey. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Burt Martin.

Visitation for Florence will begin Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 2-6 at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch. Funeral services will take place Monday, March 7, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Funeral Home. Pastor Mary Vandaggenhousen will officiate. Burial will take place at Brookside Cemetery following the services.
