George E. Thick Ii

April 9, 1935 — August 29, 2006

Thick, George E. II (Jerry), died at his home Tuesday August 29th on Clear Lake in West Branch, Mich. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Judy on August 9 and is survived by daughters Wendy (Scott) Carpenter, Jenny (Brian) Meaton, Julie (David) Hutchinson, Jody (Steve) Taratuta and Jill (Mike) Kosko. Also surviving are Jerry’s grandchildren and “Board of Directors” – Lindsay and Trevor Carpenter, Tyler and Jordan Meaton, Lucy and Hudson Hutchinson, Brittany Taratuta and Logan and Ryan Kosko. Also surviving are sister Judi (Russ) Gray, Amy (Bill) Ward, Gus (Vickie) Thick and Steve Malzahn, Karen (Jack) Broughton, and Fred (Shirley) Smith. He was born April 9, 1935 in Saginaw, Mich., and was a member of the Michigan Bar Association, and president of the Ogemaw Shores Association. He was a 1953 graduate of Arthur Hill High School, graduate of Michigan State University and the Detroit College of Law. Jerry was a former prosecuting attorney for Saginaw County and was in private practice until his retirement in 2003. Jerry loved his wife, family and the family home they built together on the shores of Clear Lake. An avid defender of the local loon population and engaged in national politics, Jerry enjoyed gardening, Clear Lake, his yellow boats, walking with his dog McGee, giving back scratches and spending time with his nine grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held at his home, 4090 Ogemaw Shores, West Branch, Michigan 48661 on Saturday, September 2 from 2-5 p.m. A ceremony of remembrance will be held at 4 p.m. for any friends who wish to speak. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CMU Public Broadcasting (1999 E. Campus Dr, Mt Pleasant, MI 48859) or the Michigan Loon Preservation Association, c/o Michigan Audubon Society, 6011 W. St. Joseph Hwy, Ste. 403, Lansing, MI 48917.
