Georgia Mae Healey

December 8, 1930 — June 26, 2013

Georgia Mae (Rode) Healey, 82, of Rose City and Rockport, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 26, 2013. Georgia is the beloved mother of Darra and Robert Shay of Fairview and Cindy and James McClain of Mt. Pleasant and the cherished grandma of Bobbette and Troy Ross of Fairview, Danielle and Shawn Krooswyk of Comstock Park, Christopher Shay of New York City, Michael and Valerie McClain of Madison, Wisconsin, and Chad and Willa Faye McClain of Farmington Hills. She will also be missed by great-grandchildren Tylor Ross and Jessie Ross of Fairview, Chelsea Krooswyk of Comstock Park, and Michael and Debra Krooswyk of Walker, Michigan. Extended family and many dear friends will feel her absence. Georgia was like a mom to many. Georgia was born to George and Wilma Rode in Cudahy, Wisconsin, on December 8, 1930. She moved to the Detroit area as a child and spent many summers with her grandparents in Kentucky. She married Derek Healey on May 7, 1949, and they moved to Rose City where they lived and raised their three children. Georgia worked as a waitress, sales clerk, payroll secretary, and finally settled into a career in banking, working her way up to loan accounting manager until retiring in 1991. Georgia had many hobbies and made a craft of any material. She spent hours quilting, crocheting, and creating all kinds of things to share with family and friends. Georgia and Derek traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada. They began wintering in Texas and spent 18 years making friends in the community of Rockport. Georgia enjoyed traveling and canoeing with Derek and liked nothing more than to spend time with her family at a campground somewhere, near or far from home. At the time of her death, she was in the midst of an extended stay at one of her favorite campgrounds, Alcona County Park, enjoying time spent with Darra, Bob, Jessie, and other family and friends who stopped to visit. Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Derek in 2010, and son Michael in 1970. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in Rose City will begin Friday, June 28, 2013 from 5-9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church on Saturday June 29, 2013 at 3:00 pm with visitation from 2:00 pm until time of service. Pastor Jody Coon will officiate. The family will host a graveside burial service later this summer at Lupton Heights Cemetery.
