Geraldine A. Mayhew

Geraldine Agnes Mayhew, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at The Lighthouse in Roscommon, MI. She had lived in St. Helen, MI since 1996, formerly of Sterling Heights, MI. Geraldine was born on September 5, 1926 in Detroit, MI to Joseph and Elizabeth (Fernette) Jacobs. She retired from working as a nurse for 20 years at Mt. Carmel Mercy Hospital in Detroit. She was a DULA and midwife for several years. Geraldine was a devoted Catholic , a member of the St. Helen Catholic Church and a Eucharist Minister who provided Eucharist to the home bound. She was passionate about dancing and was also a member of the Arthur Murray Dance Studio where she won several competitions. She enjoyed her trips to Florida, gardening, shopping and traveling. Geraldine was an avid deer hunter and also enjoyed her time around water and nature.

Geraldine is survived by her loving husband, Leonard Mayhew of St. Helen, MI; children, Gary (Marjorie) Williams of Cheboygan, MI, Dennis (Joyce) Williams of Hertford, NC, Shelley Williams of Ypsilanti, MI, Laurie Turner of Rochester Hills, MI, Michele Ericksen of Grand Rapids, MI, Kathy (Mark) Schienle of Sterling Heights, MI, Karen (Thomas) Justin of Sterling Heights, MI, and Leonard (David) Mayhew of Traverse City, MI; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and 10 siblings.

Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in St. Helen will begin on Sunday, February 4, 2018 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 6:00 p.m. followed by the Rosary. The Funeral Mass will be at St. Helen Catholic Church on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with the visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Father John Greene and Sister Barbara Matievich O.P. will officiate.

Memorial Contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Roscommon County Animal Shelter, and St. Helen Catholic Church.
