Glen A. Gustafson

September 26, 1924 — November 2, 2006

Gustafson, Glen Axel, much loved pastor, missionary, husband, and father, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 2, 2006. Born September 26, 1924, in Carney, Michigan, he enjoyed 57 wonderful years of marriage to Margaret Rosemary Gustafson nee Brink, currently of St. Helen. Following Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the US Army, which sent him to Stanford University to become an officer. After one successful year in engineering school, he asked for orders to join the fight, and was granted his request. Glen served as a corporal in the antiaircraft artillery, earning four battle stars in European campaigns, including one for his participation in the Battle of the Bulge. He received his honorable discharge in 1946. A graduate of Moody Bible Institute in 1950, he gave 16 years of service on the mission field in Ghana’s Upper Region, serving in a pioneer Bible school there. Following that, he returned to Michigan where he worked as the administrator of Lake Ann Baptist Youth Camp for two years. He then pastored Byron Baptist Church from 1971 to 1979 and subsequently shepherded Community Baptist Church of Davison until his retirement in 1989. Pastor Gustafson is survived by his wife Rosemary of St Helen, his sister Signe Loberger of Milwaukee, sons Tim of Grand Rapids and Phil of Flint, 10 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, and 1 great grandson. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 5, 2006 from 2:30-5 and 7:30-9 PM at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch. The funeral will be held Monday, October 6, 2006 at 11:00 AM at the Calvary Baptist Church in West Branch, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service from 10-11AM at the Church. Pastor Tom Teall will officiate.
