Guila J. Merkiel

Mrs. Merkiel, age 77, passed away at her home on Monday. She had lived in Lupton since 1941, formerly of St. Helen. She was an active life member in both the American Legion Post and the VFW of St Helen. She was also active in and loved to play Bingo. Guila has been suffering with cancer for the past 3 years. She had been residing with her daughter Connie, and her husband Andrew for the past 2 1\2 years. Guila is survived by 6 children: Larry (Randie) Hartlieb of Saginaw, Gloria (David) Miller of Saginaw, Dennis Hartlieb of Clute Texas, Robert (Pam) Hartlieb of Saginaw, Connie (Herman) Sensabaugh of Lupton, David (Alisa) Hartlieb of Auburndale Florida, a stepdaughter Connie Page of Flint, 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are 3 brothers, Bud (Gloria) Smith, Joe (Marrietta) Smith, Dean (Jane) Gage, a sister Dorothy (Bill) Alberts and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, 2 brothers, Harry Smith and Albert Smith, and 1 sister Rosie Barber. Visitation will be Wednesday March 19th 2003 from 5-9 P.M. The Funeral Service will be Thursday 1:30 P.M. at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in Rose City. David Wolfe will officiate. Memorial Contributions may be made to Mid-Michigan Hospice.
