Howard L. Eastman

June 12, 1916 — October 21, 2003

Howard L. (Polliver P. Sagnasty) Eastman, age 87 of Prescott passed away Tuesday October 21, 2003 in his little shack in the woods. As he requested, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Gathering will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday November 2, 2003 at his home. Mr. Eastman was born June 12, 1916 in Prescott, the son of Bert and Maude (Steinhauser) Eastman. He moved to Ingham County in 1945. He worked commercial construction in the Lansing area, retiring in 1979. Mr. Eastman was a volunteer fireman in Rose City in the 1930's and in Mason, MI. from 1963 to 1979. He was a trained EMT with the Ingham County Rescue Squad. Mr. Eastman loved his "shack" in the woods and the wildlife. He was a wood carver, carving many lumber camp tools including a 16 foot chain from native white pine. He loved to talk and tell "stories" to anyone who would listen. Survivors include two daughters and son in laws, Cathy and Jake Snider of Prescott and Lori and Kevin Hixenbaugh of Flushing. Four grandchildren--Kenneth Burns II and Karra Hixenbaugh of Flushing, Mike Snider of Clio and Holly and Todd Garverick of Ortonville, three great-grandsons--Jacob Snider, Takoda and Chayton Garverick. Brothers--Leon (Bea) Eastman of Prescott, John Eastman of Clio and Mac (Shirley) McGarvey of Flushing and a sister, Flora Higgins of Farwell. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister in laws--Raymond and Zip Eastman, Doris Eastman, Arlene Eastman, Wes Higgins, Norton King and two sisters, Francis King and Joyce Heath Kinden. Special thanks to the Mid-Michigan Hospice of West Branch and especially Dawn, Janet, Delta, Carol and Jean. Thanks also to Sue from the Ogemaw Council on Aging and special caregiver Penny. Memorial Donations are suggested to Mid-Michigan Hospice-West Branch or the Council on Aging-Rose City Branch.
