Irene C. Schmidt

Irene C. Schmidt, age 89 of West Branch, passed away Monday, May 9, 2011 at Horizon Senior Center in St. Helen. Irene had been a resident of West Branch for all of her life. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch and she worked at Taylor Door for many years. She loved to dance and play cards. Irene is survived by her children, Patricia (Gary) Gradowski of Burton, Lonnie Schmidt of West Branch and Jan(Peter) Smith of Lapeer, 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers, Robert Kartes and John (Hazel) Kartes of West Branch and her sister-in-law Beatrice Kartes of West Branch. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 from 1-9 p.m. A Ladies rosary will be recited at 2:00 p.m. and there will be a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. On Thursday, Irene will lie in state beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch until the Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. Fr. Patrick Maher will officiate with burial following at St. Joseph Cemetery, West Branch.
