James Lafayette Clayton

June 1, 1920 — July 10, 2012

James L. Clayton age 92 of West Branch, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at his home. James was born in West Branch, the son of John and Iva Clayton. James married Dorothy M. Curtis September 19, 1943 in West Branch. He had lived in West Branch all of life. James was a member of the Edwards Community Church. James enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking, especially making furniture for the church and his family. He worked in construction most of life, after retiring James worked at Ace Hardware over 21 years. James is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy of West Branch, son, Jack (Pat) Clayton of West Branch, son, Jim (Pat) Clayton of West Branch, son, Chuck (Claudia) Clayton of Perry, MI, daughter, Julie (Jeff) Globke of West Branch, daughter, Rose (Mark) DeMatio of West Branch, heart adopted son, Wayne (Kathy) Stahl of Skandia, MI, brother, Paul (Yvonne) Clayton of Kingman, AZ, brother, Elton Clayton of Owosso, sister, Arzel Stillwagon of West Branch, sister-n-law, Aliene Clayton of West Branch, and sister-in-law, Joyce Clayton of Durand. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by parents, John and Iva Clayton, son, Thomas Clayton, brothers, Carl, Russell, Gordon, Bill Clayton, sisters, Grace Wasoliski, Doris Delong, Margaret Young, and Helen Cripps. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin Friday, July 13, 2012 from 2-9 pm. The Funeral Service will be Saturday, July 14, 2012 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Pastor Jon Scott will officiate. Burial will follow at Edwards Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Edwards Community Church or Hospice of Helping Hands.
