James M. Cathcart

James M. Cathcart, age 81, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2016 at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City, MI. He lived in Rose City, MI for the past 23 years, formerly of Waterford, MI. He was born to Earl and Freida (Dettman) Cathcart in Gary, IN on June 5, 1934. Jim married Benita Vettraino on June 2, 1990 in Parshallville, MI. Jim was a United States Air Force Veteran and served near the end of the Korean War. He was a Purdue graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree and loved his engineering job with General Motors for 35 years. He enjoyed riding his Harley and loved visiting Montana and his home in The Villages, Florida. Jim had a great sense of humor, beaming smile, and was always willing to help those in need.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Benita Cathcart of Rose City, MI; sons, Clyde Cathcart of Orlando, FL, John (Nancy) Cathcart of CA, and Dave Cathcart of Hadley, MI; grandchildren, James, Charlene, Alex, and William. He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Freida, son, Glenn, brother, Charles, and sister, Naomie.

A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey, MI.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like everyone to be aware of motorcycle riders during the summer.
