Jerry Wayne Smith

Jerry Wayne Smith, age 53, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw, MI surrounded by his loving family. He had lived in Alger, MI for his entire life. Jerry was born on July 15, 1961 in West Branch, MI to Norman and Illah (Hoffman) Smith. Jerry married Kathleen Bates in Ogemaw County on January 10, 1995. He was the current General Manager of D & N Towing and had also worked for Rayburn Oil Company in Sterling and Franklin Forge. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, automobiles, and was an avid race fan.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Smith of Alger; children: Kenneth (Jessica) Hoeppner of Alger, MI and Kendra Smith of Alger, MI; grandchildren: Destannie, Jazmine, Jaden, Kenny Jr, Karlie and Carter; mother: Doris Smith of Alger, MI; siblings: Vicky (Clay) Rodgers of Roscommon, Pat (Julie) Miller of Burton, MI, Vern (Janet) Smith of Alger, MI, Debbie (John) Kowalewski of Grand Blanc, MI, Diane Craft of Clio, MI and Lori (Dwayne) DeVault of Roscommon, MI; sisters in law: Margaret and Teresa; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Dave, Norman Jr. and Nelson.

Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch, MI will be on Monday, October 13, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday October, 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Tim LaVere will officiate.
