Joan Hilda Weiss

September 16, 1942 — December 4, 2017

Joan Hilda Weiss, 75, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 4, 2017 while surrounded by her family.

Joan was born on September 16, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Hilda and Ralph Hammink. She will be remembered forever by her husband of 55 years Denis Weiss, as well as her children Eric Weiss, Mark Weiss, Alan Weiss, and Lori Esper, fourteen grand-children, one great-grand child, and her beloved dog Hoss. She was preceded in death by her parents Hilda and Ralph, twin sister Judy Lemponen, and brother Ralph Hammink, Jr.

Joan and her husband Denis were high-school sweethearts, and they married on September 1, 1962. Joan helped support Denis as he obtained multiple educational degrees, and she was a devoted housewife and mother as they raised their children. Joan and Denis moved to Lake Ogemaw in West Branch, Michigan in 1994, where they have resided ever since.

Joan was passionate about reading, animals, and flying in the private plane that she and Denis built themselves. Most of all, Joan was passionate about family. Joan was the matriarch of her family, and she loved having her family around her. She and Denis have their family visit as often as possible, and they have hosted their annual family reunion at Lake Ogemaw for the last 20 years. Although Joan will not physically be present in the future, she will always be present in the hearts and memories of her entire family.

At Joan’s request, her family will conduct a private ceremony in her honor at a future date to be determined.

Arrangements were made by Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch. Online condolences can be shared at www.steuernolmclaren.com
