John "Jack" Carter

July 26, 1925 — July 4, 2005

John N. "Jack" Carter, age 79 of St. Helen passed away on July 4, 2005 at Hilltop Manor in Roscommon. Mr. Carter was born July 26, 1925 in St. Helen, Michigan to Harold and Martha (Nichols) Carter. Jack was the youngest of three children. Jack worked in the Carter family business, St. Helen Development Company, in his teenage years. Mr. Carter married Mary Lou (Farrand) Carter in 1947 and soon left for the Navy. Jack served in WWII and the Korean Conflict as a sonar technician. Upon his return from the war, Jack worked for Carters, Inc. and managed the Artesia Beach Resort and Campground. Mr. Carter became a partner in Birch Pointe Properties, Inc. and was instrumental in the development of several subdivisions in Richfield and Higgins Township. Survivors include his wife Nancy Ann Carter, two sons, Tim (Corinne) Carter of St. Helen and Tom (Cassie) Carter of Oregon, six grandchildren, Jennifer (Gary) Hufford of Brandon, FL, Sarah Carter of Saginaw, Andrea Carter of Swartz Creek, John Carter of St. Helen, Zach Carter of Swartz Creek and Jesse Carter of St. Helen, a great-grandson, Sean Hufford and a sister, Marian Foehr of St. Helen. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a brother, Kenneth Carter. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff of Hilltop Manor of Roscommon for their exceptional care. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in St. Helen will begin on Thursday, July 7, 2005 from 4-8 P.M. The Funeral will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home. Pastor Rick McClendon will officiate with burial following at Fairview Cemetery, St. Helen. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association.
