Joyce L. Harrington

Joyce Leone Hoy Harrington was born July 30, 1936 at Johannesburg, Michigan. Her parents were Leslie Hoy and Beryle Hoy, formerly Beryle Wiswasser. She attended the local public schools and grew to adulthood in the Johannesburg community. The greater part of her later life was lived in Rose City, Michigan. Joyce married Gordon E. Harrington June 15, 1956 at Hetherton near Johannesburg. She was his devoted wife for more that fifty-two years. From this marriage three daughters remain to mourn her passing: Desta (Warren) Wenzloff of Oak Park, IL, Niko (Mark) Benjamin of Rose City, and Kylee (Brandon) Clayton of Crestwood, KY, her grandchildren, Spencer, Jordan, Allison, Nikolas, Andrew and Ty. One son, Kent, preceded his mother in death. Also, she is survived by two sisters: Jane Hickock of Pinellas Park, FL and Mary Phelps of Port Huron, MI. Her brother, John of Johannesburg, passed away several years ago. Joyce attended Geneva College. She received Bachelor of Science and Masters degrees in Junior High School Education from Central Michigan University. She taught in the Rose City Junior High School for thirty-one years retiring in 1990. She was a past treasurer and member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Association. Joyce also taught in Fairview and Lupton. Joyce spent her retirement but still active years in Pinellas Park, FL. She was an informed antique collector and enthusiastic student of the stock market. She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church of Pinellas Park. Joyce departed this life for a better one on August 22, 2008. We mourn our great loss but are glad for Joyce since to depart and be with the Lord awaiting the resurrection is far better. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in Rose City will begin on Wednesday, August 27, 2008 from 4-8 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the Lupton Friends Church. Rev. Harold Harrington and Rev. Milton Harrington will officiate. Burial will take place at the Meridian Line Cemetery in Johannesburg on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Center for Independence through Conductive Education.
