Lanora Markell

November 8, 1913 — May 22, 2006

LaNora Markell, age 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 22, 2006, in her residence at The Brook in West Branch, Michigan. She was born on November 8, 1913, at Robinson's Mill, Goodar Township in Ogemaw County, to Alexander and Mildred Parker, their third child. She began teaching school in Ogemaw County at age 19, and married Paul Mason in 1937. One child, a daughter, Judy, was born in 1941. LaNora taught school for 39 years in Lapeer and Ogemaw Counties. She was also active in Churchill United Methodist Church, 4-H in Lapeer County, the Ogemaw County Fair, Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She is survived by her daughter, Judy, and son in law Carl, grandson, Adam (Tessie), and granddaughter, Jessica, of New York City and Chicago, stepsons, Bill Webster and Jack Markell, sisters, Jane Short of Lupton, Helen Bobalik of Apopka, FL, and Vivian (Gordon) Short of Naples, FL., and her brother, Richard (Mildred) Parker of Troy, MI., and sisters-in-law, Ruth Parker of Pellston, MI., Betty Parker of South Branch, MI., and Marian Parker of Lake Orion, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Bernard, Jim, Sandy and George, sisters, Theora, Ruth, Marion, and Barbara and husbands Paul Mason, Claude Webster, and Warner Markell. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the wonderful caregivers at The Brook and Hospice of Helping Hands. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in Rose City will begin on Wednesday, May 24, 2006, from 2-9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at the Churchill United Methodist Church on State Road in Selkirk. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel for a scholarship fund or to Churchill United Methodist Church for use by the church.
