Lawrence Arthur Bellor, age 69, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at his home in West Branch with his family by his side. He was born on December 28, 1949 in Bay City to Lloyd and Wilda (Bishop) Bellor. On February 20, 1981 he married Debra DeRosia in West Branch. Larry lived in West Branch since 1980, born and raised in Bay City. He graduated from John Glenn High School in 1968 and then went onto Central Michigan University where he received his bachelor’s degree in education. Larry was a PE teacher for the West Branch Rose City School District where he coached high school baseball and football, retiring in 2010. He received the MHSFCA Regional Coach of the Year in 1994, 1996 and 1997,MHSFCA Coach of the Year in 1997, Class BB State Championship in 1997, MHSFCA West All Star Game Assistant Coach in 2003, and was inducted into the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2010. Early in his career, he also coached American Legion Baseball. Larry enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, golfing, pickle ball, biking and spending his winters in Florida and summers on Beaver Island. He also enjoyed spending time with friends, family and mentoring all of his former players.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Debra Bellor of West Branch; daughter, Erica (Brett) Densé of Traverse City; son, Kyle Bellor of Grand Rapids; brothers, Daniel (MaryAnn) Bellor of Bay City and Richard Bellor of FL; sister, Barbara (Gerry) Draves of Alger; brother in law and sister in law, Dave and Barb DeRosia of Traverse City; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and many aunts and uncles.
Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Father David Parsch will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can go towards a E.S.P. Memorial Scholarship Fund to provide scholarships for graduating high school seniors who are attending college or to the family for improvements to the pickle ball courts on Beaver Island.
