Marilyn Fay Surbrook

Marilyn Fay Surbrook, age 88, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Bortz Health Care in West Branch, MI with her loving family by her side. Marilyn was born to Andrew and Hazel (Littlejohns) Nielsen on May 30, 1925 in Saginaw, MI. She has lived in West Branch since 1954, formerly of Bay City, MI. Marilyn married Robert “Bob” Surbrook in Saginaw on August 28, 1948. She loved camping and belonged to the Starcraft Camper Club of MI and the Wildwood Wheelers. Marilyn was one of the founding members of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church back in 1976. She was a wonderful seamstress and volunteered in Florida at the Pinkadilly Thrift Store. Marilyn was a teacher at West Branch Rose City Schools until her retirement in 1988, and her students would have described her as “tough but fair”. She shaped many lives over the years of teaching. Marilyn loved spending time with her grandchildren, reading, and keeping up with learning the newest technology. Marilyn firmly believed that ice cream was invented just for her. Marilyn is survived by her son, Mark (Deanna) Surbrook of West Branch, MI; granddaughter: Alison Carrick; grandsons: Jeremy (Kayla Howard) Surbrook, Zachary, Matthew and Tyler Cahill; great grandson: Reilly Carrick; great granddaughter: Savanah Howard, and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, and her parents. Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will be Sunday, March 2, 2014 from 2-7 p.m. The Funeral Service will be Monday at 11 am at the funeral home. Pastor Dan Stoneback will officiate. Memorial Contributions may be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
