Vernon David Samp

Vernon David Samp, age 75, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at the West Branch Regional Medical Center, in West Branch. Vernon has lived in West Branch since 1991 previously of Detroit. He was born to James and Julia (Mishak) Samp in Detroit, Michigan on November 10, 1938. Vernon was a Police Officer in Detroit for 31 years, a volunteer fire fighter for Clear Lake Fire Department / Foster Township, and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1957-1960. Vernon was a friend to everyone he met, always willing to lend a helping hand. He is survived by his wife of 39 years Sadie (Maletz) Samp of West Branch, daughter Sheryl (Chris) Marinkovich of Ann Arbor, son Kurt Smith of Plymouth, son Steve (Renee) Samp of Wixom, daughter Julie (Dean) West of Monroe, and daughter Edie (Bruce) Haarala of Plymouth. His grandchildren include Brandon, Derek, Christopher, Nick, Kurtie, Kyle, Alec, Thomas, Chloe, Zach, Megan, and Alyssa. Also surviving are his sisters Bea and Ruthie and extended family Marlene, Ronny and Pat. He was preceded in death by his son Dwayne Smith. A Celebration of Life Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch with visitation from 10-11 prior to the service at the church. Fr. Patrick Maher will officiate. Memorial Contributions are suggested to the Clear Lake Fire Department / Foster Township.
