Walter Harold Cornman, age 83, passed away Monday, September 3, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. Walter was born in Big Creek Township in Oscoda County on April 5, 1929 to Harold & Clara (Hughes) Cornman. He has been a resident of Rose City for 26 years, previously of Detroit. Walter was a member of the Rose City Area Historical Society. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. Walter’s main passion was his “ love of the outdoors,” while following Gods path throughout life. Walter started working for General Motors in 1953 as an engine tester and retired in 1986. After retiring from GM he started his second career, Walt’s Lawn Care which he enjoyed. Walter was a US Navy veteran serving on the USS Munsee in Korea from 1948 to 1952. Walter is survived by his wife Connie Cornman of Rose City, his 8 children Diane (Richard) Zimkiewicz of Macomb, Sharon Zartman of Rose City, Kathy Cornman of Rochester Hills, Terrence (Amy) Cornman of Rose City, Norman (Sharon) Hamelin Jr. of Clarkston, Mark Hamelin of Greenville, SC, Annette (Steven) Downing of Rose City, and Phillip (Mary) Hamelin of Clarkston. He has 19 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, a brother Lyle (Mary Lou) Cornman, and sister Arlene Mason. He was preceded in death by a brother in law Russell Mason. Visitation for Walter will begin Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in Rose City from 2-9 PM. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the funeral home. Pastor Jody Koon will officiate with burial following at the Rose City Cemetery. Memorial Contributions can be made to the DAV, Disabled American Veterans.
