William E. Lawrence

November 11, 1938 — February 13, 2004

Mr. Lawrence, age 65, passed away at his home in West Branch. He had lived in West Branch since 1972, formerly of Harbor Springs, Michigan He married his wife Kathryn on November 22, 1958 in Vassar, Michigan. Mr. Lawrence served with the Michigan State Police K-9 Unit from 1968-1983, was a police officer for Richfield Township, Vassar City Police and was a deputy for the Tuscola and Ogemaw County Sheriff's Departments. He served in the Marines from 1958-1961, was a volunteer firefighter for the DNR, a member of the Michigan Bow Hunters including holding the office of Governor for District #3, a member of the American Legion, the Masonic Temple and the Sheriffs Posse. He loved hunting and his grandchildren. Mr. Lawrence is survived by his wife Kathryn of West Branch, daughter Denise Lawrence of West Branch, son Dennis (Renee) Lawrence of West Branch, daughter Deborah (Tim) Buhlman of West Branch, son Dean (Deanna) Lawrence of West Branch, brother Gail (Sondra) Lawrence of Mio, Michigan and mother-in-law Caroline Wellemeyer of Vassar, Michigan. Also surviving are his grandchildren Michael, Heather, Tabitha, Jason, Matthew, Ky, Katie, William, Scott, Brooke, Carli, Macy and many aunts and uncles. Mr. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents William and Marjorie Lawrence and a grandson Richard McAuley. Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Sunday, February 15, 2004 from 5-9 P.M., Monday from 12-9 P.M. with a Masonic Service on Monday evening at 7:00 P.M. The Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, February 17, 2004, 11:00 A.M. at the First United Mathodist Church with Reverend Mark Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery in West Branch. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Helping Hands or Special Olympics.
