Agnes Marie Maciejewski, born Surma, passed away suddenly and peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the age of 87. She was born on Wednesday, July 27, 1938, in Detroit, MI to Joseph and Marie (Fritz) Surma. Agnes lived a life filled with kindness and warmth, a true reflection of her friendly and caring personality. She lived in St. Helen, MI since 2007, formerly of Troy, MI.
A devoted member of the St. Helen Catholic Church for many years, Agnes actively participated in her community. She was part of the St. Helen CCW (Council of Catholic Women), where she made many lasting friendships. Her faith was important to her, and she often took to the lectern to share her love for her church.
In addition to her spiritual commitments, Agnes found joy in volunteering at St. Vincent DePaul of Roscommon. She was also a proud member of the Corvair Car Club of Detroit, where her passion for cars brought her together with like-minded enthusiasts. In her leisure time, Agnes loved to read mystery novels and work on crossword puzzles, activities that kept her mind sharp and her spirit light.
Agnes is survived by her cousins, JoAnne Spring of Gross Pointe Woods, Midge Culos of Harper Woods, and Tom Brune of Seneca, SC. She also cherished the special bonds she formed with her neighbors, Cathy (Russ) Tomes and Nancy (Wayne) Mills.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Charles, her brother, Max Surma and cousin, Veronica Brune. Agnes will be remembered fondly by all who knew her for her unwavering kindness, spirited love for life, and the joy she brought to those around her.
A celebration of her life will be held in the spring 2026, where a mass will be held at the St. Helen Catholic Church is St. Helen. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Fairview Cemetery/Richfield Township Cemetery in St. Helen, MI.
