Alvin George Marshall, age 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at his home in St. Helen, Michigan. He was born on April 15, 1932, in Flint, Michigan to John and Rachel (McLaren) Marshall. Alvin lived a life marked by dedication to his craft, deep family ties, and a zest for the outdoors and community engagement.
Alvin devoted more than four decades to General Motors AC Spark Plug in Flint, working as a Tool and Die Maker until his retirement in the mid-1980s. His commitment and skill were hallmarks of his professional life, and he carried those qualities into every aspect of his life.
In his younger years, Alvin was an avid traveler who enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing—pastimes that allowed him to immerse himself in the beauty of nature. His interests extended beyond the wilderness; he also found joy in playing bingo, riding his golf cart, bowling, golfing, and engaging in woodworking. Alvin remained an active participant in local township meetings, reflecting his enduring commitment to his community. Family time was particularly important to him, and he treasured visiting with his grandchildren. Even in quieter moments, he delighted in watching game shows and old westerns, small pleasures that brought him comfort and happiness.
Alvin’s life was enriched by the company he kept, including his beloved pets—cats and dogs that he adored deeply, as well as feeding and watching the birds. He had a sense of humor and enjoyed shopping and having lunch with his children.
Alvin is survived by his children: Trudy Smiley, Robin Marshall, Pam Marden, Kay (Kenny) Felkner, Debra Brown, Lyle Aho, Shawn Brown, and Steven Gavlinski. His legacy lives on through his 23 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and his cat Bart, a testament to the enduring love and influence he held over his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Alice, and his children: Jean Harris, Cindy Moden, Frank Boursaw, Tammy Durbin, and Sherry Molands Brown, along with his son in law, Dave Smiley. Though he has left this world, the memories and love Alvin shared continue to resonate deeply within those who knew him.
The funeral service will be held at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in St. Helen on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 12:00 p.m. Pastor Bryan Clark will officiate.
