Daniel Joseph Schalau, born on August 22, 1954, in Oxford, MI, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 23, 2025, in Rose City, MI at the age of 70. Daniel led a life marked by hard work, creativity, and a deep appreciation for the great outdoors.

After receiving his GED from Standish Sterling High School, Daniel dedicated many years of his life to his career at Ogemaw Forge, where he was respected for his dedication and craftsmanship before eventually retiring. His work ethic remained a guiding principle throughout his life.

Daniel enjoyed a rich tapestry of hobbies that reflected his love for nature and the arts. He found joy in hunting and fishing, activities that connected him with the serene landscapes of Michigan. Additionally, he was skilled in wood burning craft, specializing in creating beautiful TV table designs, which became a source of pride and accomplishment for him.

He is survived by his beloved daughter, Kristal M. (Eric) Johnson, and his cherished grandson, Walter August Johnson. Daniel also leaves behind his siblings: Kenneth L. Schalau, Evelyn J. (Larry Petretti) Schalau, Bobby R. (Laurie) Schalau, and Cindy F. Schalau and a special friend and caretaker, Nick Lannom.

Daniel is preceded in death by his parents, Lavern K. and Ona M. (Turner) Schalau, as well as his siblings: Terry L. Schalau, Anna M. Schultheis, Mary J. Saiz, Wendy I. Gould, and Claudia M. Gudeau.

Cremation has taken place, and no service is scheduled at this time.
