Donald Stanley Kakarago

Donald Stanley Kakarago, age 63, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022 at Medilodge of Tawas City. He was born on October 2, 1958 to Anna Miller.

He joined the Navy after high school and then proceeded to raise his family. Donald was a beloved resident of Medilodge of Tawas City (Tendercare) for over 30 years. He was known for his hats and his smile. Everyone he met was soon a friend and they quickly learned his famous handshake.

Donald is survived by his children, Anna (Jason) Martinson, Donald (Katherine) McElhinney, and Daniel Hempton; grandchildren, Aaron, Melanie, Morgan, J.R., Skylar, Tristan, Daniel, Tebella, Hayden, Aireona, Michael, Theresa, Natalie, Jazmyne, Lexi, and William; great grandchildren, Matthew and Kyzer; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother and his children’s mother, Theresa Hempton.

A special thanks to his longtime friend and guardian, Dean Rau, and to the staff that cared for and loved Don for 30+ years at the Medilodge of Tawas City.

Visitation will be held at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch on Friday, June 24, 2022 beginning at 12:00 p.m. until the time of the veteran service at 2:00 p.m.
