Duane Edward Loomis, age 90, passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at his home in West Twin Lake with his loving wife and daughters by his side.
Duane was born on June 23, 1932, on the Farrand Farm in Iosco County, MI to Darwin St. Clair and Lillian Marie (Farrand) Loomis.
He grew up on Henderson Lake and graduated from West Branch High School in 1951. Duane enlisted in the Air Force and served from 1952 till 1956.
He was employed at Saginaw Steering Gear as an Electrician from January 1960 till he retired in 1990. Duane married Frances Page on June 18, 1960, and they had three daughters: Dawn, Dorene, and Diane. They were divorced.
Duane went on to become a Master Electrician and worked at the Factory of the Future at GM.
On March 3, 1972, Duane married Dortha Whitney (Field). They made their home in Saginaw, MI till they retired to their dream home on West Twin Lake in Lupton, MI. After a few winters of enjoying the snow, they decided to get a camper and travel. They found the Fountain of Youth Spa and RV Park in southern California desert. They spent the next 30 winters there. Traveling back and forth they hiked and explored many of the National and State Parks with groups of friends. The other seasons of the year were spent enjoying the out of doors in northern Michigan along with their family.
They were both avid square dancers and enjoyed horseshoes. Duane loved to hunt and fish and always kept busy with electrical work.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Dortha Loomis; three daughters Dawn Munoz-Loomis and her son Isaac Munoz-Loomis plus children by marriage, Juan G. Munoz & Talisha Munoz (deceased). Dorene (Reno) Loomis, Diane Meehleder and her husband John, his son Chris. Also, Duane’s children by marriage; Susan Ann (Field) Collet and husband Gordon, her children Whitney Roberts and Sterling Field. Son C. Jay Field and wife Vickie, their children Cody, Cindy, Samuel and Michael Field plus children by marriage; Nathan, Zachary, Matthew, Lauren and Brian Field.
Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 9:00 a.m. Burial with veteran honors will be at Selkirk Cemetery. Seventy Kevin White will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
