January 28, 1927 — August 15, 2021

Edith Mae Sheltrown, age 94, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at her home in Gladwin, MI surrounded by her family. She was born on January 28, 1927 in Gladwin, MI to Rolla and Nora (Shellenberger) Hanes.

Edith grew up in Alger, attending the Bourret Country School from K thru 8th grade. Soon after that, she lived with her sister, Mary Carlson, in Flint and took care of her children and kept house during WWII. Later, she returned home with her sister, Clara, to attend high school. There she met, Clyde Sheltrown, and they started dating and were married on June 14, 1947.

During her early marriage, she worked at the Sugar Beet Factory in Bay City, staying with her sister-in-law, Lillian, through the week and went home on the weekends. Edith was first and foremost a homemaker. Having eight children, she worked morning until night caring for her family. There was always plenty at mealtime. She did a lot of canning from her garden produce.

Edith was part of a square-dancing group that danced in the Surline Elementary gym back in the 1970’s. Edith worked a short term at the West Branch Tubes and a short stint at Plastic Factory.

She was able to travel to Hawaii and Las Vegas with Grover and Katie Zettle Jr. She also took an Alaskan Cruise with her daughter, Jane, sister, Clara, and niece, Freda Seder.

These last few years she spent a lot of time with her special friends, Jan Bellinger and Donna Vest putting puzzles together and watching movies.

Edith is survived by her children, Verna (Michael) Ehinger of West Branch, Jane Sheltrown (Al Crawford) of West Branch, Chris (Kathy) Sheltrown of West Branch, Pam (Dan) Bruder of West Branch, Rose (Ken) Maurer of Herndon, PA, Kim (Dave) Faber of West Branch, Clay Sheltrown of West Branch and Tony (Shelly) Sheltrown of West Branch; 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; sisters, Clara Cronk, Dorothy Green, and Lillian “Ike” Rabidue; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clyde, brothers, Jacob, Barney, Oliver, John and Arthur and sisters, Mary and Rena.

Per her wishes, cremation has taken place.
