Edna May (Haruska) Hubbard “Babe” passed away peacefully in Grayling, Michigan on September 8,2025 at the age of 90.
Born to John and Edna Mae Haruska, née Little on January 31, 1935, in Ashley Michigan, she spent her youth growing up and attending school in Lansing. She attended Michigan Agricultural College (MSU) upon graduating from High School. Babe met the love of her life, Charles (Dick) Hubbard, and they married in 1955. They proceeded to start their family having five kids within seven years. They made their home in Detroit and later the family moved to Sterling Heights.
Babe loved Houghton Lake, and with her young family would spend many summers there on Old Trail Drive not only surrounded by her family, but by Charles' family as well. She enjoyed being an elementary school secretary for over 20 years and would entertain her family with stories she shared about happenings during her workday.
She was a voracious reader and embroidery artist, loved her winters in Florida, and for 60 some years rarely missed her General Hospital episodes. Her quick wit and generosity were unmatched. Her favorite activity after retirement was going to the casino, first with her sister-in-law Mary and granddaughter Ande and later with her son-in-law Richard. Actually, she enjoyed going with anyone who would take her. She loved all the dogs and always had a treat ready for them. She loved her granddogs, her neighbors dogs, but especially her Baby dog.
Her crowning glory, however, were her grandchildren to whom she was known as Plaino. She loved them all deeply and spoiled them unashamedly.
Mostly she loved doing things with her family. Going out to eat, camping all around the US, Sunday dinners, holiday gatherings, Disney world with her grandkids, and going on cruises. She packed an awful lot of life into her 90 years here.
She was predeceased by Charles, her beloved husband of 46 years, her brother Ronald Haruska, her sister Connie Smith and her granddaughter Joslyn Hubbard.
She is survived by and will be deeply missed and forever loved by her children; her sons Richard Hubbard (Cheryl) and William Hubbard and her daughters Catherine Perez (Scott), Donna Mott (James), and Barbara Pellegrino (Richard).
Plaino will also remain in the hearts of her seven surviving grandchildren Stephanie Hubbard (James), Ande Hubbard (Gil), Kuu Arding (Allie), Caitlin Paris, Erica Sheehan (John), Casey Hubbard (Jessica) and Dana Monty.
Also feeling the loss of their GG and keeping her in their hearts are her great grandchildren, Oliver, James, Charlotte, Minah, JJ, Jack and Mia, and great-great granddaughter Aphilia.
She is also survived by her dear sister-in-law Linda Murphy (Robert), and many loving nieces and nephews.
Family and Friends are invited to come together to share memories and celebrate her life at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home at 109 East Houghton Avenue in West Branch, Michigan from 2:00-4:00 PM Sunday, September 14, 2025.
