Elaine Ruth Kaffenberger, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, was born on January 22, 1941, in Detroit, MI. She departed from this world peacefully at her home in St. Helen, MI, on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at the age of 84, surrounded by the love of her family. Elaine's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with kindness, devotion, and an unwavering spirit that inspired all who knew her.
She married David Kaffenberger in Clawson, MI on December 27, 1958.
As a dedicated member of St. Helen Catholic Church and the Catholic Council of Women, Elaine spent countless hours giving back to her community. For 25 years, she volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul in Roscommon, exemplifying her deep commitment to helping others. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, illuminating the path for her family and friends as she lived out her values in every interaction.
Elaine embraced life with an open heart and a joyful spirit. She cherished family camping trips, creating lasting memories as she traveled and explored the great outdoors with her children. Her love for cooking brought warmth to the table and was seasoned with love, providing a comforting gathering place for her family.
Elaine is survived by her loving children: Scott Kaffenberger, Laurie Porter, David (Amy) Kaffenberger, Gregory Benson, and Karen Kaffenberger. She leaves behind a legacy of love, encapsulated in the joy of 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of her heart.
She reunites now with her husband, David, who passed away in 2023, their son, Paul, who left this world too soon in 1998, daughter, Renee Benson in 2024, and son, Steven in 2024. Elaine is also preceded in death by her cherished brothers, Kent and James Valentine, and her beloved parents, George and Ruth (Chamberlain) Valentine.
Elaine Ruth Kaffenberger's warmth and compassion will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
The funeral mass will be held at St. Helen Catholic Church on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 9:00 a.m. Father Jerry Hunko will officiate. Burial will be at Ortonville Cemetery in Ortonville, MI.
