Guelda Sue "Marie" Brothers-O'Dette

Guelda Sue “Marie” Brothers-O’Dette, known to family and friends as Marie, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Intersect Healthcare in Roscommon, MI, at the age of 84. Born on February 8, 1942, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Marie lived a full and rich life surrounded by those she loved.

Marie’s days were marked by kindness, creativity, and a zest for living. She was accomplished in many pursuits—her passion for gardening brought beauty to every season and her love of baking delighted family and friends, especially with her unforgettable wedding cakes. Marie was also an avid crafter and painter, infusing each piece with care and imagination.

Christmas held a special place in Marie’s heart. She became renowned within her community for her enchanting decorative displays, both inside her home and out, embodying the warmth and joy of the season for all to enjoy.

A true fan, Marie was an emphatic lover of Elvis Presley, and his music was often the soundtrack to joyful gatherings and quiet moments alike.

Faith played an important role in Marie’s life. She was a faithful member of St. Helen Community Baptist Church and contributed her voice to the church choir, where she found fellowship and inspiration.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Gary O’Dette. Marie leaves a loving legacy through her children, Roger (Bonnie) Brothers and Troy (Jeanne) Brothers, as well as her cherished daughter-in-law, Jeanine Brothers. Her family was her greatest pride, and she was blessed with grandchildren Amber (Chris) LaCross, Michael Brothers, Elizabeth (Kevin) Brower, Lindsay Gregory, Tyler Brothers, and Derek Brothers. Marie's love extended across generations to her great-grandchildren: Jordan Kurtenbach, Hope LaCross, Caydence LaCross, Michael Brothers Jr., Brayden Kurtenbach, Paige Brothers, Liam Gregory, Kendall Kurtenbach, Lillian Gregory, Logan Gregory, Belladonna Brothers, Nash Brothers, and great great granddaughter, Everleigh LaCross. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom benefited from her generous spirit and steadfast love.

Marie was preceded in death by her son, Jim Brothers; brothers Edward Marshall, Bill Marshall, and Chuck Marshall; and her beloved sister Alice Moore. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.

Marie’s legacy is one of love, generosity, and vibrant creativity. Her gentle presence, unwavering support, and the memories she made with those she cherished will be remembered always.
