James Bennett Noffsinger

December 11, 1941 — August 22, 2023

James "Jim" Bennett Noffsinger, 81, of West Branch, MI, passed away peacefully surrounded by family overlooking his farm on August 22, 2023. Born on December 11, 1941, in Flint, MI, Jim was a kind and hardworking man who cherished his family.

Jim is survived by his loving daughters, Laura Lee (David) Kitzman of Canton, Wendy Sue Noffsinger of West Branch, and Kristina Lynn Noffsinger of West Branch. He was a proud grandfather to Kayla Marie (Kevin) Goulette, Kimberly McDonald, James McDonald, Ruth Ella Smith, Harper Grace Smith, Christopher Kitzman, Samantha Kitzman, and great-grandchildren Bowen, Bristol, Memphis, Tex,  Weston, and Landon. Jim is also survived by his brother Jerry Noffsinger, sister Judy Kabbes, sister Joellen Wangler, brother Jeff Noffsinger, and brother Joe (JoAnn) Noffsinger. He will be deeply missed by his beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Jean Ann, brother Buster, and sister Jackie.


Jim graduated from West Branch High School as part of the Class of '59. Following his education, he served in the Army from 1960 to 1964. Jim was a proud veteran, having served as an 82nd Airborne Paratrooper with 47 jumps and in the special forces as a Green Beret.


After his military service, Jim briefly worked at General Motors before pursuing his passion for construction and farming. He started his own construction business, Northland Builders, and also started his own farm. He enjoyed maintaining a herd of 70-100 beef cattle from the late 60s to present. Jim took great pride in his work and enjoyed various other jobs, including owning J&N Trucking and working at Christman Construction.


Jim worshipped at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He found solace and strength in his faith.


In his free time, Jim enjoyed herring fishing, listening to music, playing cards, and laughing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. These were cherished moments that brought him joy and happiness.


Visitation for Jim will be held at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch on Friday, August 25, 2023, from 3-8pm. A Funeral service will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church in West Branch at 11:00am on Saturday, August 26, 2023, with visitation starting at 10am. Father Emmanual Finbarr will officiate the service, and Jim will be laid to rest at Edwards Township Cemetery with Veterans Honors.


In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the family of Jim Noffsinger.


Jim Noffsinger will be remembered as a dedicated family man, a generous friend, skilled veteran, and a hardworking individual who left a lasting impact on all who knew him. He is a legend. He will be dearly missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those he loved.
