James E. Hoffman

October 5, 1941 — January 9, 2021

James (Jim) Edward Hoffman, age 79, passed away at the MidMichigan Midland Hospital on Jan 9th after battling Covid-19. Jim was born to Gerald C Hoffman and Emeline Elizabeth Hoffman on Oct 5, 1941 in Saginaw, Michigan. He resided the majority of his life in the Saginaw/Bay City area working for General Motors as an electrician, before retiring to St. Helen, Michigan where he enjoyed the outdoors, camping, and living near his own mother and sister while they were alive.

Jim was known by his family and friends as fun loving, spirited, a jokester and remained throughout his entire life being predictably unpredictable. He loved family above all else and will be deeply missed.

Jim is survived by his sister Mary Averill, and his 5 children and their spouses: Jim Hoffman & Michelle; Shelly (Hoffman) Shope & Jon; Johanna (Hoffman) Harwood & Bruce; Dorothy (Hoffman) Richardson & Brian; Kristi (Hoffman) Shiels & Dave. His legacy was passed on to his 15 grandchildren and his 1 great-grandchild who all loved him: Noah, Nathan, James, Becca, Michael, Christian, Matt, Dayton, Garrett, Jack, Kelly, Katelyn, Malka, Natalie, Sharrone and Emma. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Dorothy (Hoffman) Carbeno; Nancy Hoffman; and Gerald Hoffman, Jr.

Per his wishes, Jim will be cremated. The family will hold a small memorial at a later time when it will be safe to do so.

The family thanks the staff at Brookdale Midland Senior Living for the care they gave to our father over the last year, especially when we were isolated from seeing in him in person.

In remembrance of our father we ask that you LOVE YOUR FAMILIES and KEEP THEM SAFE.
