Janet Sue Mathews, born on January 21, 1941, in Saginaw, Michigan, ascended to Heaven on Monday, September 29, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family at the age of 84. She lived most of her life in West Branch, Michigan, before moving to Gaylord, MI in 2010, where she continued her lifelong commitment to serving and uplifting those around her.

A devoted servant of God, Janet volunteered tirelessly at the E-Free Church of Gaylord and was a cherished member of the Elkhart Reformed Presbyterian Church of Elkhart, IN. Her faith and dedication were evident to all who knew her; she was a woman of humble service who preferred to lift others up rather than seek the spotlight herself. Janet found her purpose in serving the Lord Jesus Christ, and her selflessness touched the hearts of countless individuals throughout her lifetime.

Janet shared a beautiful journey of love with her husband, Robert "Paul" Mathews, whom she married on June 10, 1975, in West Branch, Michigan. Their union was a testament to their deep affection for one another and their shared commitment to faith and family.

Janet was a proud mother to her daughter, Diane (Tim) Wiltse, and cherished every moment spent with her granddaughters, Shannon (Steven) Boyce and Leanne (Harrison) Morgridge. She was overjoyed to have welcomed a great-grandson, Peter Owen, into her family, who brought endless delight to her life.

Janet's legacy will continue through her loving siblings: Julie (Tom) Felstead, Joyce (Jim) Allen, JoEllen (Mike) Harris, Jack (Kelly) Hoenshell, and Jeff (Erin) Hoenshell, who will hold dear the cherished memories they created together.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Ross Hoenshell and Elizabeth (Lewis) Hoenshell, as well as her stepmother, Cleo Hoenshell.

Janet Sue Mathews will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her nurturing spirit, and her profound ability to make anyone feel seen and loved. Though her earthly journey has come to an end, her legacy of love and service will continue to inspire and uplift all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 10,2025 at E-Free Church of Gaylord at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Joe Sereno and Newell Cerak will officiate.
