Jeffery David Papst, born on January 1, 1978, in Saginaw, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 24, 2026, in St. Helen, Michigan, at the age of 48. His presence in the lives of his family, friends, and community will be remembered with love and gratitude.

Throughout his life, Jeffery was recognized for his warm, fun-loving nature and his deep commitment to those around him. Always making time for others, he brought smiles and laughter wherever he went. Known for being overall goofy and spreading joy, he had a unique ability to make people feel valued and included.

Professionally, Jeffery found fulfillment and purpose as he worked at Complex Powersports in St. Helen and several other shops. Through his dedicated efforts, he played a key role in jumpstarting many businesses, always eager to lend a hand and offer support. Many in the community remember him for helping a lot of men find their own paths, and for being both a mentor and a steadfast friend.

Jeffery’s life was rich with interests and hobbies that he pursued passionately. He thoroughly enjoyed trail riding and staying on the road—a true spirit of adventure guiding his days. Time spent with family and friends was especially precious to him. Fishing and kayaking were favorite pastimes, offering him peaceful moments in nature. His love of music, rapping, and dancing with his daughter brought energy to gatherings, while his playful sense of humor made everyday moments brighter. He loved his Silverado and racing RC cars with his son.

He is survived by a loving family: his son, Jeffery Papst Jr. and his longtime girlfriend Olivia Frehling; his daughter, Brianna Papst and her longtime boyfriend Jake Skaggs; his mother, Shelly Papst and his stepdad, William Montgomery Jr. He is also survived by his siblings, Dylan Doyle, Jenny (Ray) McNeely and Michelle (Austen) Tyler. Jeffery’s fond memory is also carried forward by his grandson, Neo and a granddaughter on the way; his grandmother, Donna Butcher; his nephews and niece; the mother of his children, Saundra Alvarez; as well as extended family and countless friends who were touched by his kindness and camaraderie.

Jeffery is preceded in death by his father, Todd Butcher, his grandfathers, Deno Butcher and William Papst Sr. and his grandmother, Iris Papst.

As his family, friends, and community gather to remember him, they hold close the memories created and the love he inspired. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit and the example he set continue in the hearts of all who were privileged to know him.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Ogemaw Springs Cemetery in West Branch, MI. Pastor Jim Beck will officiate.
